April Meeting

The Last Frontier: Farming, Family & Freedom in Wake County

Thursday, April 2, 2026 — 6:00 PM

East Wake Republican Club Monthly Meeting

Wake County has become one of the fastest-growing counties in the United States. A metro area pushing 1.2 million people. New subdivisions going up on roads that weren't built for them. Industrial parks sprouting from fields that fed families for generations. And every year, the tax assessments climb — until the day comes when the heirs of a family farm can no longer afford to keep what their grandfather built.

That day is coming faster than most people realize. And East Wake is where it's happening right now.

Join us April 2nd for what promises to be one of the most important conversations our club has had in years.

Event Details

Come early and enjoy dinner with fellow conservatives before the meeting. McLean's serves up classic Southern cooking — the conversation starts at the table.

Featured Speakers

  • Beth Pugh Farrell — Wake County Soil & Water Conservation District Supervisor. Beth works every day to protect the land, water, and agricultural legacy of Wake County. She understands both the science and the stakes.
  • The Parker Family — East Wake farmers with roots in this county that go back generations. They'll share what it's actually like to receive a tax assessment that treats your working farm like a luxury real estate investment — and what it means when you realize you may not be able to pass it on.

What to Expect

  • A frank, data-driven look at how Wake County's growth machine is reshaping East Wake — parcel by parcel
  • A firsthand account from a farm family navigating impossible choices between heritage and financial survival
  • What conservation easements, land-use policy, and tax relief tools exist — and where they're falling short
  • How Republican principles of property rights and limited government apply directly to protecting family farms
  • Practical ways our members can engage with county commissioners, planning boards, and state legislators on these issues
  • Networking with like-minded conservatives who share your values and your love for what East Wake still is

Why This Matters

This isn't just about farmers. If you have a back porch, a long driveway, or a view that doesn't include a rooftop, you understand what's at stake. The pressure bearing down on East Wake doesn't stop at the farm fence line. It reaches into every quiet neighborhood, every rural road, every community that has managed to hold onto something worth holding onto.

Republicans believe in property rights. We believe a man's land is his own, that a family's legacy is not the government's to tax away, and that growth without wisdom is just another word for destruction. We're not against development. We're for responsible development — the kind that doesn't leave a county's infrastructure gasping and a farm family signing papers they never wanted to sign.

The developers aren't waiting. The assessors aren't waiting. The question is whether we'll show up and fight for the East Wake that raised us — or whether we'll wake up in ten years and wonder where it went.

Come hear from the people living this fight. Come ready to get involved.

This is your community. This is your moment. We'll see you Thursday.
